Chris has over 20 years of experience teaching. Starting as a martial arts instructor in his teens and moving on to music, he teaches in classroom, group, and private sessions. As a music teacher, he has over 15 years of experience teaching drums, classical and world percussion, guitar, bass, piano, voice, music theory, and song writing. He has taught 3 year olds to 90 year olds.
His teaching style varies depending on the student’s learning style and goals. He mixes self-discipline and fun. The goal being to maximize learning in an interesting and fun environment. For example, if the student is using their lessons as a get-away from regular life, practice is suggested and recommended but not required (this is often the case for older students). However, if the student is using the lessons as a form of tutoring, practice is required for at least 15 minutes per day. If, for example, the student is studying music for school band or chorus or they are wanting to audition for college music programs or are preparing for an audition or because they want to eventually become a professional, practicing for at least 30 minutes per day would be necessary. Of course, regardless of the student’s goals, the more one practices, the sooner one will improve.
Chris has teaching studios in Thousand Oaks and Venice, Ca or he can come to your home.
